Florida Gulf Coast University is a public university located in Fort Myers, Florida, part of unincorporated Lee County, Florida. The university belongs to the 12-campus State University System of Florida. FGCU competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference in NCAA Division I sports and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate's, 51 different types of bachelor's, 29 different master's, and 6 types of doctoral degrees.

Florida SouthWestern State College is a state college in Southwest Florida. It was founded in 1962 as Edison Junior College and was named for Thomas Edison until the college was renamed FSW in 2014. The college has its main campus in Fort Myers in Lee County, satellite campuses in Charlotte and Collier counties, and outreach programs in Hendry and Glades counties.
Hodges University is a private, non-profit comprehensive degree-granting institution with campuses located in Naples, Florida and Fort Myers, Florida. It was founded in 1990. The Fort Myers campus opened in 1992.
Established in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1964 as a small college with some revolutionary ideas, NSU was originally named Nova University of Advanced Technology and chartered as a graduate institution in the physical and social sciences.
